Described by Variety as a “major talent,” Jasmin Mozaffari is an award-winning Toronto-based film and television writer-director known for her bold and evocative storytelling.
Her debut feature, FIRECRACKERS, premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival to critical acclaim. The film won Best Film at the Stockholm International Film Festival, and Jasmin was named Best Director at the Canadian Screen Awards. Released theatrically in Canada and the U.S. in 2019, FIRECRACKERS was praised by Variety, which compared her to a “young Andrea Arnold.” The film was also a New York Times Critic’s Pick and appeared on Vulture’s Best Films of 2019 list, alongside recognition from The LA Times, New York Magazine, and The Hollywood Reporter.
Executive produced by Arian Moayed (HBO’s SUCCESSION), Jasmin Mozaffari’s 2023 short film MOTHERLAND is inspired by her parents’ experiences during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis. The film won Best Canadian Short Film at the Toronto International Film Festival and Best Drama at both Aspen Shortsfest and HollyShorts Film Festival. It also earned two Canadian Screen Awards, including Best Live Action Short Drama.
Jasmin also directs episodic television for networks including Netflix, CBC, PBS, and Hulu. Most recently, she directed Season 3 of Netflix’s hit series Ginny & Georgia, further cementing her reputation as one of Canada’s most exciting filmmakers.
