Jasmin Mozaffari - bio
Jasmin is an award-winning Toronto-based filmmaker who studied film at Ryerson’s School of Image Arts. A number of her short films including FIRECRACKERS (2013) and WAVE (2015) screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival and across Europe.
In 2018, Jasmin’s feature film debut, FIRECRACKERS (based off of the short) premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival to great acclaim, with the Huffington Post calling is a “marvel of cinematic images” on their “Top 10 Best of TIFF 2018” list. The Globe and Mail called the film “a bold and incendiary feature debut”, raving “Mozaffari doesn’t merely announce herself as a vital new voice for Canadian cinema. She shouts it from the rooftop…” FIRECRACKERS went on to screen around the world, and took home the top prize at the Stockholm International Film Festival, the Bronze Horse for Best Film in Competition.
Jasmin’s work focuses on the female experience through a raw, unapologetic approach. She aims to tell stories through an intersectional lens, exploring and deconstructing ideas of gender, race, and sexuality through a provocatively kinetic visual style.
